Early Sunday morning we finished tracking the Ides of Mae full length album. There will be many updates from the band but for now, I’d like to add a quick personal note.
I had a long bout with depression that lasted from 2011-2014; As an active musician, I struggled with writers block and I couldn’t make or keep friends. I jumped from project to project and couldn’t entertain any kind of a relationship. I was rejected by multiple bands and wasn’t able to be a part of a collaborative group that I wanted so desperately. It took me almost two years to record the “Uncut” EP which encompasses what I was experiencing at the time.
That all changed when I recorded two demos in early 2014 called “anthesis” and “remedied”. Anthesis established a sound that formed what I wanted to do musically. And the song remedied did that my lyrical goals. I yelled a heartfelt cry to god
“You know me, in these arms I rest
Safely here I lay, and with one last breath
‘in all, I’m counting on You'”
After that demo was recorded I met two musicians that changed my life, Jonathan and Derek.
We jammed and played for hundreds of hours between May and December 2014. At that time we found our vocalist, Jasmine who joined us to record the Ides of Mae EP which includes the final version of “Remedied”. Since we started gigging in April 2015, Ides has quickly gone from a project to a national touring band. Our music has never been better and our message has never been clearer.
I’m don’t love this level of vulnerability but I feel like it’s important because this album is a landmark in personal life. It’s really good and I can’t wait for you all to hear it. We’ve been tracking it since February this year and the songs are wonderful. We’ve got a new version of “Anthesis” that is one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard and some other goodies that make me so proud of the band. I’m working with the best people I know doing the thing that I most love.
Thanks for reading. Anticipate some artwork soon. Special thanks to my dad, Michael for his incredible work on the album. It wouldn’t exist without him.
